This engine produced 18.2 PS (13.4 kW; 18 HP) at 3,600 rpm of maximum output power. Both engines used a full pressure lubrication system, a dry-type air cleaner with pre-cleaner, pulse type fuel pump and fixed jet carburetor.
The JD 318 is equipped with hydrostatic power steering, shoe and drum brakes on rear wheels, open operator station and 17.0 liters (4.5 US gal.; 3.7 Imp. gal) fuel tank.
